Not often you get to be part of a project you can be proud of. This was one. Based on artwork for a possum skin cloak by Aboriginal artist Theresa Ardler. And realised as a life-sized scale bronze by Julie Squires. Project overseen by Anne Sykes. After a Pshop concept I took it to a full-scale final sculpt in Zbrush, making allowances for the bronze requirements. Then it was output in foam and Julie took it to reality! Although monuments to Captain Cook are a dime a dozen, there has never been one at Kamay Botany Bay to recognise the indigenous people of Australia who were already here, and for tens of thousands of years. I also sculpted a traditional bark canoe and elder/mother with cloak and children concept.
